This is CHT’s sixtieth anniversary, traditionally known as the diamond anniversary. The United Nations has declared 2009 the Year of the Natural Fiber.  The two themes together make “Facets of Fiber...Naturally.”

Classes and Seminars

 

Nationally-known speakers and Texas favorites are scheduled to teach at the conference with subjects covering weaving, spinning, dyeing, and more.  Presenters include Jackie Abrams, Beverly Allen, Rachel Allen-Aguilar, Suzanne Baker, Connie Elliott, Deborah Harrison, Robert Hils, Bobbie Irwin, Mary Macaulay, Susie Monday, Wendy Moreland, Rasa Silenas, Laurie Sliz, Rebecca Smith, Carolle Ternus, Jette Vandermeiden, and Lillian Whipple.  There will be new skills to learn, opportunities to hone the skills you have, and classes to nourish the artist within.

 

Exhibits, Shows and Awards

 

The Fashion Show features garments and accessories in a runway setting.  Awards will be given in the categories of Best Handwoven garment, Non-Woven garment (felted, handspun other than woven or fiber-fusion), and Fashion Accessory (handwoven, felted, handspun, braided or fiber-fusion.)

 

The Members’ Exhibit features members works in weaving, spinning, felting, basket-weaving and other fiber arts.  Awards will be given in the categories of Functional Household (towels, table runners, rugs, etc) Art Concept ( tapestries, wall hangings, decorative wall rugs, etc) Three-Dimensional (basketry, free-standing forms, vessels) and Handspun skeins.

 

Other awards will include Best of Conference,  Conference Theme Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Juror’s Choice Awards, and awards from the Handweavers Guild of America, Complex Weavers, and Handwoven Magazine.
